What is galgo perro?

Galgo perro, also known as the Spanish Greyhound, is a breed of dog that originated in Spain. They are tall, slender dogs with a long, pointed snout and long legs, allowing them to reach great speeds. They were traditionally used for hunting, particularly hare and rabbit, and still participate in coursing events today.

Despite their athletic ability, galgo perros are gentle and affectionate dogs that make great pets. They are highly intelligent and adaptable, and often excel in obedience and agility competitions. However, they can be sensitive and easily frightened, so socialization and positive reinforcement training is essential.

Unfortunately, galgo perros have a history of being mistreated in Spain, particularly at the hands of hunters who do not value the dogs once their hunting days are over. Animal welfare organizations have worked to rescue and rehome these dogs, both in Spain and abroad.
